Pike Ends 2009 With Over $1.1 Million On-Hand, Over 1300 Individual Contributions
Ardmore, PA - Pike for Congress ended 2009 with $1,107,482 cash-on-hand, with $1,058,070 of that available during the primary. This represents over 1300 individual contributions from supporters who believe we need change and that Doug Pike is the best candidate to turn this District blue in November.
"We have been working hard to hold Congressman Gerlach accountable for his record as a lap dog for Wall Street -- and we will continue to do so," said Doug Pike. "We need new leadership to fight for job creation, accountability on Wall Street, and a real fix for our broken health care system."
Gerlach's FEC report showed that he ended 2009 with under $6,000 on-hand but he is expected to raise significant funds from Wall Street and other special interests. In his career, Gerlach has taken over $1.6 million in campaign dollars from the finance, insurance, and real estate sectors.
"The Democrats need a nominee who has put together a strong enough campaign to hold Gerlach accountable," said Pike campaign manager Andrew Eldredge-Martin. "No other Democratic candidate has demonstrated an ability to run a competitive campaign."
Two other Democrats have declared for the 6th District race, but only one filed with the FEC. His report showed only $101,181 left that can legally be spent during the primary. The other Democrat has not yet filed an FEC report, which is not required until a candidate has raised or spent more than $5,000.
Doug Pike served on the Editorial Board of The Philadelphia Inquirer for 14 years, providing insight and analysis on a broad range of public policy for southeast Pennsylvania. He also served as President of a hospital for 10 years. Previously, Pike served as a Special Assistant and Speechwriter for U.S. Senator Paul Tsongas. In 1971, Pike graduated with honors from Princeton University. He resides in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County.
The 6th District encompasses parts of Berks, Chester, Lehigh, and Montgomery Counties.
